Electronic 12vdc Thermostat Retrofit

I just lost my second thermostat in as many years ... have the fridge ono constantly in hot climates as we circumnavigate, and replaced the original with a sketchy but price-is-right Fijian thermostat pulled out of a dusty box in Lautoka ... glad to get a year out of it ...

Now, I'm thinking of retrofitting an electronic thermostat ... but seems to be a bit of a project, involving I suspect an external display and thus some kind of drilling into the cold box for the sensor and the compressor wiring ...

Any advice? Any ready source? I have an Isotherm on my Fountaine-Pajot ... my wife is State-side for 3 weeks so have access to US resources ... we are in Indonesia, headed for South Africa
