Yes, but the chart says amps per hour per hour.
You have a rate and a time not a rate a time and another time.
Do you say miles per hour, per hour?

I know what you were pointing out. 3ah/hour...

But that aside, I thought the performance at 95F was actually quite good. Especially for a portable unit.

Re: Engel fridge/freezer deal!!!

I have been comparing the OP suggested Engel fridge with the Dometic. Anyone have insight as to the quality difference between these two units?

Price wise, they are about the same, $665. Link to Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Dometic-CFX-5.../dp/B01ENA4ZE4

Thanks
Marc

Re: Engel fridge/freezer deal!!!

When comparing brands, see what compressor they use. Engel is more expensive, but they use a swing compressor, which is very energy efficient, reliable and quiet. I have the Engel 40 drop-in model (made for mounting under a counter) and I have nothing but praise for it. It sips power and can be used as a freezer or fridge. Best of all- it's SILENT (the only way to know when the compressor is running is to touch it to see if it's vibrating).

Also, they seem to be very durable (years and years of cold beer!).

That is what I was going to buy, cause I just couldn’t see $840 for a portable fridge.
However with the new price, it’s within reason to me, so I got one.
Only complaint I have heard on the Engels is that sometimes the compressor is noisy. Also of course the cigarette lighter plug sometimes comes disconnected.
In my opinion a cigarette lighter plug should never be used for something like this, it needs to be hard wired, or your going to lose some food, eventually.

I can't imagine the noise is from the compressor. Mine is absolutely silent. I wonder if the noise isn't from the vibration resonating in the housing. When I installed mine (the drop-in model) I used rubber washers when I bolted it in place.

Re: Engel fridge/freezer deal!!!

I have terrible bandwidth now, I’m over my “unlimited” limit and am now throttled.
But I bet if you search here with the Google search feature Engel noise or similar you will get some hits.
Seemingly not all are noisy, but some seem to be .
Engle is as far as I know the only ones that use the swing compressor, it is an unusual design, but I doubt it’s all that much more efficient than a BD type.

Amp hours are not "amps per hour" but "X amps over Y hours".

Amps per hour makes no sense, amps are already a flow rate (coulombs per second).

Think of AH as a quantity like gallons, amps are the flow rate at any give time.

AH per any time period is exactly correct. Example:

If the fridge uses 4A while cycling, and cycles continuously 24x4=96AH per day.

Normally it might cycle 15min/hr or 25%, so 24AH per day, very efficient.

Hope that helps.

Re: Engel fridge/freezer deal!!!

Yes the Sawafuji compressor is noisier than Danfoss.

Not sure about Waeco, probably in between.

None are "noisy" unless you are sensitive and it's near your head in an otherwise silent small space.

I run fans, not least to cool down the condensor and electronics, masking white noise AFAIC.

ALL these compressors are super durable, last thing to fail, and not at all the only determiner of reliability.

Engels are famously long lasting even under rough conditions.

Isn't amp hours per hour the rate of acceleration of the electrons?
