Re: Engel vs Others

5 years on our first edgestar and it's still running strong, Our new one is outside I. The cockpit and barely runs to keep stuff frozen at 26 degrees.

We don't have experience with that fridge but comparing the energy utilization of the Engel 45 Quart Freezer to the Whynter 45 Quart freezer they appear to be approximately the same energy utilization. I would expect then that the 62 quart would be pretty good as well.

We have found that my Engel beats the published utilization but maybe that is because of our transit bag.

Re: Engel vs Others

Engel has great long term rep, but the new ones are getting a lot of bad reviews. I wonder when they switched their manufacturing base...

Yep, my noisy one was one of the new plastic ones. It works fine, just makes a heap of noise, far too much to live with in a boat. Even three rooms away in a house I can hear it... It's much, much louder than our normal 230v fridge.

Mine is dead quiet. Just got it in the spring.

What model do you have?

Engel MR40F Eclipse Fridge Freezer - 38L. I Need to take it in to the local repair agent and see what they can do, Hopefully it is an easy fix, but I just don't want to throw good money after bad.

To be fair, just rang the service agent, it's still under warrantee, so he is going to have a look at it. He hasn't heard of any common issues except in some cars due to a resonant vibration frequency. fingers crossed its an easy fix.

If not - it's under warranty!

Let us know what you end up with and how it works, I've been looking at the 62 qt dual zone, but I haven't seen one in person.
How much room do you lose having the dual zone? How does the dual zone work? Is there some kind of valve and dual evaporators?

We have been using that model for about 6 months on our boat. It has been running that whole 6 months and has worked great so far.

I am using Waeco for almost 2 years.

Plus: I have the 12v hooked up and runs the 120v/240v when on shore power. The consumption is as printed. My 2 x 100w solar keeps everything frozen and cool as I set it to -15C . Max is -22C.

Minus: The ice box tends to build a lot of ice around the walls. So have to do regular cleaning.

The temp regulation for the refrigeration is not even. If you leave the vegetable/mushroom on the lower section, they will be come frozen.

Don't like the 12v cigerette lighter connector. This one is on my to do list.

They are having a look at it. They're sort of dragging there heels a bit on it, not being sure if it's normally that loud or not. I looked up the specs and they quote 32 db which is a lot less than the noise it makes at the moment, using the domestic fridge as a guide. It is just on 32 db according to a dodgy app I've just downloaded for my phone and the engle is much louder than it.

Re: Engel vs Others

Hi

Has any one had any experience with the Companion Fridge Freezer - 45L?

BCF in Sydney Australia are having a special on them ($549 includes bag and remote control)

Having said that no use buying one if they are no good.

Regards

Manni
