Re: Espar Hydronic Durability

We have an Espar hydronic heater with four fan heaters. One of the Hi/off/Low switches failed. We replaced it but the fan still will not work. Does anyone know if there is a reset button on the fan heater or inline fuse we have to replace?

On the fans on our pro heat there are thermal switches as well the fans won't work unless the water is hot and circulating. There may ( should be) a temperature switch on the fan as well as the three way one .worth a look

Re: Espar Hydronic Durability

I don't have the hydronic system, but I do have a espar airtronic D5. It runs 24/7 as I am a liveaboard in PNW. It works great, haven't had any issues with it so far beyond trying to balance the airflow better through out the boat.

I would like the hydronic system, but the boat came with the airtronic and I see no reason to remove a functional system.

don't forget to run it on high for about 30 minutes each week to burn out the carbon deposits ( it will also improve the efficiency of the unit. )

Got any more info on those thermal switches? I did a quick google but nothing seemed right. I would love to be able to turn my fans off when the heater was off instead of having to do it manually. I have a Webasto but the theory should work...

it appears that your webasto unit is supposed to be setup for the thermostat that controls the unit is supposed to also control the fans .
When the stat turns the unit on it also turns the fans on . Same when up to temp it turns everything off.
Sounds like your fans are not wired into the heating system electrical circuits.

Thanks. But it really doesn't match my setup (3 hi/low/off switches, 3 blowers and one thermostat). I would love to switch out the switches to something connected to the thermostat but so far haven't found any hardware other than an aquastat made for Real blowers at Sure Marine (W005-213-REAL Optional Fan Aquastat for REAL Heaters). This seems like the kind of thing that would work.

Re: Espar Hydronic Durability

I think you would have to put a relay between the thermostat and the fans or use the aquastat, which is the best idea, IMHO..

Re: Espar Hydronic Durability

My Espar is 32 years old and has never given me any trouble except one corroded connection. I have pulled the injector a few times to clean it but that’s just regular maintenance. I’ve run it for hours and hours (when it’s single digits outside) with no problems.

It’s all metal with a rusted shroud from an old deck leak but has only quit on me that once. Maybe old ones are available if you hunt around?
