Re: Freshwater pump cycling more often; accumulator tank problem?

Yes, the filter/screen is normally plumbed upstream of the pump to keep debris out of the impeller I guess. When the screen clogs, often with the least bit of debris, the pump runs dry and eventually the motor burns up (thermal overload protection doesn't seem to work reliably on these cheap pumps in my experience).

jkishel...yes, a screen-the type typically supplied with a pump- should be upstream. But the filter upstream, too? What micron filter do you use upstream? And if the filter is there, why do you need the screen, too? I thought those filters were designed for a pressurized water input, not to have the water pulled/sucked thru them?

Have you checked the pressure relief valve on your water heater? If it drains directly overboard it could develop a leak and cause the symptoms you describe.
