Re: Head holding tank vent thru-hull

Are there any issues with using a plastic fitting?

None, as long as it's PVC, marelon or anything BUT nylon. Nylon is not UV resistant...UV will turn a nylon thru-hull into powder in just a couple of years.

Re: Head holding tank vent thru-hull

I'm looking for a replacement Head holding tank vent thru-hull as ours is corroded pretty badly and I want to up-size it. I haven't been able to find a 3/4" thru-hull with a screen...

The last thing you want in a holding tank vent thru-hull is a screen...they cause more problems than they prevent because dust, pollen, waste (don't pretend you've never over flowed your tank!) clog the screen, blocking in and out airflow. You only want an open bulkhead thru-hull. You'll never have another blocked vent if you to put hose nozzle against it and back flush the vent line every time you wash the boat and/or pumpout. Any critters that try to set up housekeeping in the vent line will just get a water slide ride into the tank.

Re: Head holding tank vent thru-hull

This uni-seal thing, is it like a grommet, you stick a piece of PVC pipe into it?

That's a pretty good description of it. UNISEAL

Ronco Plastics is your our best source for a tank. They make TOP quality thick-walled water and waste tanks for a very reasonable price and have more than 400 shapes and sizes, over 100 of which are non-rectangular, and they install fittings in the sizes and locations specified by the customer when they make the tank. There are retailers who sell Ronco tanks, but Ronco sells direct for a much lower price...and they're great to work with. Their marine tank catalog is here Ronco Plastics marine Tanks

When looking at drawings it's important to know that there is no top or bottom until the fittings go in, and YOU decide where they go. So rotate, flip in any orientation to find the tank that fit your space.

And btw...I'll be happy to help you spec the fittings locations and sizes.

Re: Head holding tank vent thru-hull

Most tanks only need ONE vent line unless location in the boat makes cross ventilation necessary. I'll be glad to brainstorm this with you if you'd like to send me a PM or better yet, an email.

Re: Head holding tank vent thru-hull

I must have misinterpreted your response in this thread. I though you had indicated that the mushroom was to be avoided and use a fuel vent with no screen. Thanks!
