Inlet head hose specs

Can anyone tell me why my factory installed head has a head-rated hose (ie white solid or stiff plastic) on the inlet side rather than standard vinyl or rubber hose? I understand the outlet hose going to the black water tank needs it to keep smells from permeating through it, but other seawater hoses or freshwater hoses are not the white head hose type.

Thanks for the help!

Maybe that is what they had. Not all white hose is sanitation hose.

Re: Inlet head hose specs

Although sewage doesn't pass through it, there are all kinds of micro (and sometimes not so micro) sea organisms that can die, decay and stink, permeating hoses, plus sanitation hose is rated for connection to below-waterline thru-hulls..not all hoses are. 3/4" flex PVC sanitation hose #148 isn't expensive, nor is it particularly stiff and is the standard toilet intake hose. What do you have against using it?

Thanks for your reply. It isn’t as easy to use as vinyl hose relative to bending arc and ease of installing/uninstalling barbed fittings.

BTW, on a somewhat different topic - is not the separation of fresh water and black water that is afforded at the bowl where the freshwater inlet is high in the bowl adequate for providing a barrier? I would like to have the option of either freshwater flush or saltwater flush by just a flip of a switch. Or is the concern that the salt water my contaminate the fresh water? I have read about the other options but none are as easy as flipping a switch.

It also won't collapse when on the suction side of a pump ?

Re: Inlet head hose specs

Contaminating the fresh water with sea water is definitely a risk that just flipping a switch doesn't prevent because that doesn't flush all the sea water with its micro-organisms out of the intake line. There are toilets that can use both, but they're high end electric macerating toilets that have two separate intake ports in the back of the bowl and require a kit to to do the switching. There are no manual toilets that can use both sea and fresh water.

What's the make/model of your toilet?

I used to flush my manual toilet, with fresh/potable water, using the hand-held shower hose, attached to my sink. Be careful to hold the shower head above the toilet rim, & use "dry" flush setting.

Re: Inlet head hose specs

If it operates on the suction side it needs to be vacuum rated hose so it won't collapse.
And it keeps the stink down...for a while at least..

Re: Inlet head hose specs

Sanitation hose covers all the bases...vacuum rated, below-waterline connection etc.

Interesting comments from those that know, here in south oz we have verry large f w lakes or at least by our standards where the Murray river enters the sea into the southern ocean ,yachts and power boats regularly go between salt and fresh water ,manual and or electric toilets appear to have no problems using either ,but one must be carefull with holding tanks ,.⛵️⚓️
