inline hose float switch

I am wanting to get rid of my shower sump and put in a whale gulper pump that the 2 sinks and the shower feed into be pumped over the side. However I cannot then put a normal bilge float switch in to turn on the whale gulper as it comes form multiple sources. I was thinking that one of the Aqualarm low flow water cooling detectors set in normally open setting and placed "upstream" might be able to trigger the whale gulper to turn and to pump out. Has anyone tried this before or know if it could work? Thank You,

Richard

Re: inline hose float switch

A 'normal' float switch doesn't care how many sources feed the reservoir, only the accumulated height of the water.
A flow switch would be required in each source hose. The contacts in the Aqualarm flow switch are only rated 0.5 to 3.0 Amps [for signalling], whereas pumps generally require 6 Amps [or more].

The inline style pumps run on a manual switch. I had one in a previous boat tied to the shower drain. You turned it on and it ran until you turned it off. When doing a 'military shower' I would shut off the water and the drain pump.

I liked having a manual switch in the shower. KISS.
Put a small sea strainer before the pump to catch hair!

Re: inline hose float switch

I think Gord pointed out the problem, the Aqualarm switched won’t carry enough current. You might work around this by having the switch activate a solenoid switch to power the pump. I think I’d just keep the sump and a float switch.

Re: inline hose float switch

Use a Whale Gulper ‘IC’ pump. It has solid state liquid sensing built into the small by sump fittings.

Both of ours have been stellar for 5 years full time use.

FWIW

Cheers, Bill

Yes, I think the Whale IC would work, I could use the manifold and have everything come into that, perfect thanks
