Installing Scoop Strainers

I am think about installing a couple of these scoop strainers to existing thru hulls that tend to go dry when underway.

One for the Generator, AC water intake and for the water maker intake.

I can see that they can be screw mounted to the hull. How thick is the hull on my 57' sailboat? My first thought is that I would rather not drill holes in it and mount this with screws. How about some 5200 instead?

Or am I overthinking it...and just mount it with some #8 X 3/8" flat head screws?

How would you mount them?

Bronze or Marelon?

Thanks!!

Re: Installing Scoop Strainers

I mounted mine with #8x1/2” machine screws. If you hit something hard enough to tear them off, that’s only a small pair of your worries. I also cut out most of the bars, since I have a strainer inside. The bars make them clog up a lot faster in tropical waters and make them harder to clean.
