Jabsco Model 37010-series, 12volt, issues

Recently installed a new service kit 37040-0000
Including new Joker Valve.

Question: as in a household toilet would standing water be normal in bowel? My unit does but for only for a short time until is vanishes. Issue: (suspect joker value) previously flushed bowl contents back flows into the bowel thru the raw water system somehow?
We have learned to run pump for sometime to push past upward run towards tank.
We also notice sewer gas smell which I would believe standing water in bowel would trap if allowed to stand.
We do not allow paper in heads.
Does not seem to be a a horizontal or vertical position to set the joker valve.

Question: as in a household toilet would standing water be normal in bowl?

Marine toilets aren't designed to hold water in the bowl because the water would end up all over the head in heavy seas or when a sailboat heels. Your toilet has a single motor that runs both the intake impeller and the discharge impeller simultaneously...so the water beling pulled in is also being pushed out along with bowl contents. So the only way to add water to the bowl ahead of use is to use a cup from the sink. Keeping it in the bowl would require very frequent joker valve replacement because although the slit in a brand new one MIGHT close tightly enough to block it for a short time, it only takes a few flushes to stretch enough to allow seepage that's slow at first but gets faster as the toilet is used.

Issue: (suspect joker value) previously flushed bowl contents back flows into the bowel thru the raw water system somehow?
We have learned to run pump for sometime to push past upward run towards tank.

For as long as you continue to flush, you're continuously pushing water uphill. What doesn't make it into the tank runs back downhill to the toilet when you release the flush button.

We also notice sewer gas smell which I would believe standing water in bowel would trap if allowed to stand.

The odor is coming from the tank and also any waste left in the line to the tank. The new joker valve will block it for a while.

We do not allow paper in heads.

No reason to avoid flushing quick-dissolve toilet paper as long as you're not flushing huge wads of it.

Does not seem to be a a horizontal or vertical position to set the joker valve.

If it's a round cup with "lips" on the outside, install it with lips vertical. If the "lips" are X shaped, it doesn't matter.

The new kit was installed two weeks ago including new Joker Valve. The valve is a x design. It is definitely not working as designed. Guess I will pull it to see what is going on.
Thanks for your help.

In that toilet there is a lip seal that separates the intake pump from the discharge pump.
I've heard that if the seal fails you can recirculate black water. It would be a very small amount but it might be enough to smell it.

Raritan makes a similar toilet to the Jabsco 37010 called the Sea Era. When designing it they looked at the Jabsco and decided to avoid this seal problem by putting the intake and discharge pumps on opposite sides of the motor.

"Not working as designed.." That may or may not be the fault of the joker valve...other problems in the system (not the toilet, the plumbing downstream of the toilet) design may not be allowing it to do what you think it should.

If you'd like some one-on-one help to solve all the problems in your system, you're welcome to send me an email.

Re: Jabsco Model 37010-series, 12volt, issues

We have a skight rise in the large hose that leads to the black water tank. A good three second flush is essential. Then we add 1 cup of fresh water from the sink and a few drops of Ajax dishwashing liquid. The fresh water floats on the sea water and the soap floats on the fresh water. It works well if you flush long enough. If not, yucky smell.

Porous hoses can be a cause of nasty odours in the heads.
If the hoses were designed for use with the heads they should be ok.
