One way valve on intake line of deck wash pump

Hi everyone,

One of my boat's PO installed a jabsco par max 4.0 pump to use as a deck wash, connected to a water tank">fresh water tank. On the intake line there's a one way valve but I don't understand what I gain by having it there. Does anybody have any idea?

Thanks in advance!

I'd imagine it is to prevent any backflow into your freshwater tank to possibly contaminate drinking water.

Maybe the hose would back flow when not in use and he didn't want to have to fill the hose every time he used the pump? I would think the pump would prevent that though...

Thanks, guys. That was my best guess as well. As I've changed the intake line to raw water, I'm removing the one way valve
