The death toll victims cause by drinking illegal home-made alcohol laced with methanol in Salatiga district, Central Java provinces, Indonesia, rise to 21 peoples in the last seven days, said Salatiga District Police Chief AKBP

There is NO methanol in my vodka, i have been making Ethanol for over 10 years with no problems and NO hangovers.
The method is to throw away the first cup full and filter a couple of times in activated charcoal to remove the fusils.
In Australia you can buy the kits, which come from New Zealand, they are sold in home brew shops " for use in making essential oils"

Tellie,
That is one thing you never mentioned on the phone when we were discussing watermakers, I will have to put that on the list to bring up when we discuss the install

Having made many many hundred of gallons of ethanol I can recommend this page. THE BLUE FLAME > ALCOHOL > FEATURES > EXPATS.org.uk
Ah yes, The Blue Flame, our Bible for the sands of Arabia! Yup, you have to be very careful to separate and discard the high and low cuts in distillation. Preferably twice. Sadik is, literally, your friend.
Having also cranked out a lot of "white lightning" with a company metal-shop made still, I would advise against doing it without some fairly sophisticated equipment - and experience...and a quick escape route in case (!) something goes wrong...

Brewing beer seems to be a WHOLE lot simpler, and I don't worry about dying everytime I open a bottle.

You would only have to worry about that if you are innumerate.
