There's no loop on the intake and the toilet is below waterline

Re: Please don't install your Forespar Marelon seacock like this

Ha good eye. Maybe the idea is that you keep that seacock closed. Then when you finish your business, you seal the toilet shut and open it up for a nice high-power flush!

Also in that setup, it appears that you can't dump the holding tank when offshore. It has a y-valve to allow flushing direct overboard, but the tank can't be emptied except by pumpout. Maybe that is by design, but it seems needlessly limiting.

Just Forespar Marelon, or Perko as well.

The boat will sink once you open the intake seacock and then no more need for pumpouts, see.

Imma still gonna go with these seacocks but nevermind "typical installation" tee hee

Re: Please don't install your Forespar Marelon seacock like this

Not really plastic

And the whole boat is plastic

Really I've concluded IMHO fiberglass is the best stuff for a cruiser not needing to fend off ice chunks
Nevermind steel or aluminum, fb is super easy to fix and shape, lasts forever unfortunately and easy to paint etc
It may turn ugly in the sun but it can't corrode

Now starts the flame wars

Re: Please don't install your Forespar Marelon seacock like this

Agreed , given the boat is grp no reason why the sea cocks need to be metal

Yup, found out that marelon is heavy-duty nylon with appropriate specs. Apologies for my comment, too fast and influenced by a boat I had seen with PVC valve.

We removed all the Forespar seacocks in our boat and replaced them with Groco adaptor plated and commercial ball valves. 316 stainless isolated and CeraKoted.
For further details send us a pm.

It's also a bad idea to have the waste discharge on the same side of the hull and near the water intake.

Older thread, but still a valid issue. I have been told that seawater intake for the flush will magnify the odor problems in the building tank. Accordingly, use fresh water only.

Thoughts?

Only issue is limited water tankage on smaller cruising boats without a watermaker. We use a bucket filled over the side to flush with then cruising, fresh water from the tank when weekending (or in the slip).

We have not experienced any odor issues yet. Scaling can be an issue I suppose. I put a cup of calgon and some dish soap down monthly.
