I have installed some PEX over the years .

This was the tool I used and still have aboard , handy for cutting all sorts of things .

PEX is cheaper, but the push-to-connect connectors are more expensive. Probably a push for my 38' boat, which used about 150' of pipe for its two water tanks and single head, with pressure, but no hot, water.

Maybe I'll take advantage of John viewing this thread...

How to connect PEX pipe to male barb fittings (for example, a foot pump)? I used a heat gun and force with a hose clamp back up. (Has worked so far for my non-critical connections, but wouldn't use on pressure or hot water.)

The ancient plumbing on my boat had lots of thin-walled PVC pipe and it is just forced onto the metal barbed fittings, I am amazed it never leaked. They only used the clear flexible tubing in tight spaces. I am looking to keep the rebuild simple, lots of new hose clamps and soft tubing.

I would probably use 1/2 inch, it is a dollar cheaper per foot.

And do yourself a favor by taking a piece of 400 of 600 wet and dry and taking the sharp edge off the outside oc the fresh cuts in the tubing - your O-rings will thank you and probably not leak.
