Refridgerator not cooling

I have an Adler/Barbour CU-100 air cooled compressor with a cold plate on a 36' sloop. The unit has worked fine up until this spring when we put the boat back in the water.

I thought the thermostat might be bad so I jumpered the C and T terminals and ran it for a half hour or so and the cold plate was getting cold. The ice box temp dropped from 20 degrees C to 12 degrees C. So another day I hooked the thermostat back up to the terminals and ran it but no cooling occurred. Just to be sure I tried jumping the terminals again and ran it for an hour but this time I did NOT observe a temperature drop.

I haven't tried refilling the 134a refrigerant yet. What's the best way to go about this and what should I look for to confirm it has the correct amount of coolant?

Thanks,

Dan

Qty should be on data plate.

Re: Refridgerator not cooling

before going to the danger zone

have you cleaned the condenser and fan

If you lost the refrigerant in that short of time adding more wouldn't fix anything

Check your voltages too, make sure the compressor is getting the power it’s expecting.

Re: Refridgerator not cooling

So I went to NAPA and purchased a can of 134a refrigerant. It has a hose and a gauge attached to it. The connector on the end of the hose is a kind of snap type connector which doesn't work with the Adler/Barbour CU-100 compressor that I have. What is the correct adapter for this?

Thanks,
Dan

you don't really know what you are doing and are going to destroy your system IMO

What Sailorboy said.

You can get a real set of gauges, and adapters for your unit if you need them. Be aware that releasing refrigerant of any kind is illegal. It's also easy to get hurt. It's also easy to trash your compressor.
