Replacement filter for Seagull

I need to buy a replacement Water Filter for our Seagull IV. I remember the Seagull salesperson at the boat show one year told me that the non-seagull replacement filters are nowhere near as good and don't clean and purify the water nearly as much as the more expensive Seagull brand.

Does someone with a knowledge of the system and it's manufacturing know if there are any good replacements. The Seagull is almost $100, which is no problem if it is significantly different than the generic "Seagull compatible" filters, but if there are cheaper alternatives that are just as good, that would be my choice. Any thoughts?

I just replaced mine and noted that the Seagull filter was rated at .4 microns whereas the cheaper filters were not rated that small. I don't know if the cheaper filters are any worse with regards to chemicals, but when you're trying to keep the bugs out, size matters.

We use PurestOne replacement filters. Works just as well as Seagull and cheaper. Also claims 0.4 micron filtration.
