Re: Sailorchic34's new Fridge

How do you keep the doors from coming open and spilling the contents when your boat rocks side to side? I viewed the fridge online, there appears to be no mechanical latch to keep the doors shut.

Physically, it's at least an inch or two larger then the old 3.5 cf I had. I did not check and it just fits. It's got almost as much room as the 3.5. Really the 3.5 had a drip trap under the evaporator that took up 2 inches which was not usable.

Very pleased with the new fridge so far.

Good question. If you look at the photo I posted at the upper left, You can see were I added a SS latch to hold the freezer closed. I have to order another latch for the fridge. The fridge is also bolted down and anchored to the deck structure behind the fridge.

On the question about where I am. Currently the Rose is at dock for the wet winter weather. I may be poor, but I'm not crazy. I'm waiting and waiting for the $%^& rains to stop. Actually had a few day dry spell so got the fridge aboard and mounted. Also did some varnishing and other maintenance chores too.

I spend about 5-6 month out and about, about 95% of the time anchored out in the bay and Delta. Winters are just a little too wet and cold for me to anchor out. I have solar and 4 gc-2's for the house bank.

MSW could have been the reason the old fridge was noisy. You new fridge looks great and will thank you for pure sine waves.

Our AC fridge and freezer are both working perfectly after 365 days a year for 7 years.

You can buy child proofing straps for fridges and cupboards.

Re: Sailorchic34's new Fridge

Do fridges/freezers in the US show an energy rating? In Aus they have a star rating, which also shows kilowatt hours per year energy consumption. This is displayed on a sticker on the front of every fridge.

Makes it easy to select an efficient fridge.

I thought California was suffering from a severe drought brought about by man made global warming?

They do, and I think many have become way more efficient that in years past too

I think your working too much, take a break and watch the news. It appears a few have even been considering an Ark.
I think at lest one major Dam is in danger.
Like Farmers, they cry either about not enough rain, or too much, its never just right.

That was two years ago. Northern california was fine last year. THis year we have had 220% of our yearly rain fall already. Another week of storms begin tonight... Joy.

That drought thingy is way in the past. The grounds are totally saturated, all reservoirs are full and we have a massive snow pack. What we lack is sunny days. Been looking tooo much like Seattle weather.

Yes Oroville Dam is messed up. They have to keep using the broken spillway so that the emergency spillway that was not designed correctly in the first place is never used. Bet it will be well over a billion to fix that dam. It's huge, I was there a few years ago. If the emergency spillway goes and lets 30 feet of water out it would destroy Oroville and towns near by.

Levies in the delta are already failing with the rains.

Yes they do. The edgestar uses 100kw less a year then my old fridge and most 120v mini fridges use power like my old one.
