Sea water foot pump, run loop above water line?

So I’m replacing my manual sea water pump in my galley sink. I’ve got one of the whale ones and I’m not super impressed with the nipples that come off of it. I have always been taught 2 clamps below the water line. The ones that come on this are dinky little ones that barely fit 1 clamp. So it got me thinking, should I be running the supply line from my through hull into a loop above the water line for the foot pump? Is that the safer way to do it?


Or am I better off just ditching the manual foot pump and putting in a regular electric pump for the sea water? Will a normal jabsco pump last when used in salt water?

The loop will need to have an anti siphon in it to be effective.
I’ve got 4 whale foot pumps aboard. One for each head, one for the galley, and salt for the galley.
One membrane failed after 49 years.
But I’d consider the anti siphon loop a decent idea.

A real "anti-syphon" device is vented, which means if you install it on the suction side between seacock and pump the pump will just suck air.

While an anti-siphon loop/vent is always a good idea; it’s not always practical.
C&C had a boat sink at dock, upon initial launch; due to a disconnected seawater supply [to sink], at the seawater faucet.
Their simple ‘solution’ was: to tie a ‘tether’ wire to the top of the hose, and connect it to the underside of the counter top, thereby preventing a disconnected hose from dropping below the waterline, and allowing water ingress.
