Seagull Waterfilter replacement frequency?

Hello,
I installed a seagull water filter last year and have benefited from it's use over that period of time especially being a full time liveaboard. It's coming up on a year and I read somewhere that I need to change the filter yearly. However, I also have read to change the filter when the water is discoloured or otherwise not fresh tasting. As of this moment, the water is perfectly fine, so I am wondering what are others practices?

Thanks,

Re: Seagull Waterfilter replacement frequency?

I have one of these also.
The instructions say change it when the water doesn't taste good.
We have a watermaker and that's the only water that's in the tank, it tastes good anyway....I'm wondering why we really have it ?

when connected to shore water we have a dual filter in line ...carbon + 5um filter, so again, why do we need the seagull.....dunno....

Cheers
Alan

Re: Seagull Waterfilter replacement frequency?

We had a Seagull IV filter on our boat, and also one in the kitchen of our home on the island of Nevis, where all our water was collected from the roof to a cistern. I normally changed the filters after 18 months or so, even though the water was still tasting and looking fine. I probably could have easily gone for two years.

At about $90 a pop you can buy a lot of bottled water. The Sea Gull people at the boat shows told me to change the filter when output slows down, when winterizing put it in the refrigerator (bacteria?). I've had it for 12 years and change the filter every 2 or 3 years.
