Soft Start for Watermaker Pump

Anyone tried using a soft start eg Micro Air https://www.microair.net/products/ea...230v-ac-motors
on their A/C watermaker high pressure pumps?
I have a 1.5KW 230v A/C pump motor on my watermaker that draws about 9A while making water but >20A on startup< wanting to reduce the startup surge.
Looking to see if there is any experience out there?
