Stove controll

Morning
The gas control on my hob is giving problems , the one I have has a thermocouple but I see from spares diagram that I could replace it with one without a thermocouple for 1/3 of the price. Will this work? What does the thermocouple actually do?
Thanks

The thermocouple stops the gas flow in the absence of a flame. IMHO a necessary attribute to any gas appliance.

Re: Stove controll

What uncle bob said…….:. Many times I have bumped into the stove/oven and the knob will move. Thermocoupler prevents gas flow.

Re: Stove controll

Put very extremely, the thermocouple saves the lives of all aboard. Do not set up without it, unless you are a scrupulously intent person. All of the marine stoves have thermocouples, and I would not buy one without them.

Re: Stove controll

without a thermocouple you should have a good propane alarm system.

Even WITH a thermocouple you NEED (not should) to have a good propane alarm system, preferably one that will automatically turn off the solenoid if the alarm activates!
