Thru hull moisture?

Hi all,

I'm getting a weird build-up of mold on one of my thru-hulls that I wanted some advice on.

One other piece of data, I had a leak from the holding tank a few weeks back that ran down and coated most of the aft compartments (including this one/thru-hull). I did clean everything up and disinfect.

So i guess my question here, is this related to moisture from the thru-hull it self? Or potentially just germ related from the holding tank leak weeks ago?

Any thoughts greatly appreciated!

Re: Thru hull moisture?

It’s a nice Apollo bronze seacock. Soap water wire brush bit of bleach. Remove nut holding handle carefully. Check for ball stem leak. Check valve is tight against hull and that thru hull is not corroded. Check with multimeter to make sure it’s not conducting electricity. Tef-Gel handle threads. Put handle back. Don’t overtighten. Good for 50 more years. You didn’t get hit by lightning did you?
Dive over and check the condition of the thru hull but that’s rarely a problem.
When you clean it up, please post another photo.
I once had to work inside a holding tank. Yuck. Never again.
Happy trails to you.
