Re: Toilet Seat Up

Well Gianluca
looks like your posting generated very good and helpful comments, for my part have always been seated, that got resolved since installing a composting toilet.

Re: Toilet Seat Up

Gentlemen sit at sea.
Sailors stand at the leeward shrouds at sea.
Dunno about any others but if you got to modify seat then it seems easier to be a gentleman or a sailor.

I never heard of this being a problem but it shouldn't be allowed in lightning storms because the electricity can travel up the pee stream.
To paraphrase - how many people are electrocuted while peeing?

This discussion is entertaining. Apparently, some folks never heard of a bungy cord or just simply hold the lid up assuming you don’t use both hands to pee.

That's the big boys... meself. I stand at the shrouds, one hand for the boat, the other for me..

Re: Toilet Seat Up

obviously, the answer is simple...and many captains require this from visiting guests....sit down !!
As for the above deck option, keep in mind a simple rule...one hand for the task at hand, and one hand firmly attached to a sturdy part of the boat...preferably on the leeward side.

Re: Toilet Seat Up

Yeah, don't pee upwind. Don't pee on the engine block while the engine (spark ignition) is running. I bet you guys can manage this.

Re: Toilet Seat Up

on the issue of safety while conducting personal business
recently was reminded with a nice cut on my forehead that a very nautical brass hook fastened on the door to hang towels met my forehead when I was propelled from my seat against the door!!!

Re: Toilet Seat Up

Count me as another one who insists that erveryone sits to pee on a boat (unless they are topside)

Re: Toilet Seat Up

Halibut longlining when it was snotty out and surging over the sides we’d just piss on the deck. Sometimes from inside the galley door. Ahhh what could be more manly?

Otherwise- I never complained about a chance to sit down for a minute....

Get yourself one of these:

Tie a bit of rope to the handle and, when you’ve finished your business, dangle it overboard to flush it out.

Re: Toilet Seat Up

! litre Yoplait bottle with screw cap, or other wide mouth screw cap plastic bottle/jar. Pee in the bottle, empty over the side or into the head. Rinse with seawater, replace cap and store in a ziplock bag in the heads. Each male can have their own bottle as needed.

I am with Ann on this one guy's.
Marine heads are small and confined, Toilet opening smaller and often enclosed on 3 sides.

My standard spiel to newbies on board is that a boat is called a "She" because we always pee sitting down.....

In a seaway a hospital bed bottle on deck to relieve yourself is safer. Just remember to empty downwind

...now what "reasonable" reply can one give to a totally irrational & ridiculous "male" preference...

Re: Toilet Seat Up

In my entire life I had never considered sitting down to pee until I went single handing on a boat and had to start cleaning the toilet myself, now I do it all the time.
