Trident Propane Control - blowing fuses?

The (10 year old) Trident Propane Controller started blowing the 5 Amp fuse that is accessible on the front of the control panel. When I replace the fuse, it works for a while (variable) before blowing.

I'm guessing the first step is to replace the solenoid valve, unless someone has another suggestion.

Thanks!

Look for chafed wires or corroded connections.

Does the tank live a a damp wet locker with the solenoid? If so then you are likely correct, corroded solenoid/friction. But sure it could be wires also, check the wire joints for corrosion too.

Re: Trident Propane Control - blowing fuses?

My Trident solenoid valve "froze" due to no use by the previous owner (stove and oven had never been used). If my circuit was energized for prolonged periods (and since frozen shut no propane at the stove) it would eventually blow the fuse. The valves are not cheap, so take the hoses off the valve and apply power and observe the piston movement. If it's slow or sticky, replace the valve ... and you already have virtually done all the work to removed it.

Just replaced a Trident valve this summer. it was pulling about 8 amps at 12v. The replacement pulls 0.8 amps.

Love my clamp on ammeter.

Thanks for adding that that you have a clamp on. So many posts seem to be winging it as the draw.
