Unused small freezer compartment frost

We have a large freezer onboard so the small freezer compartment inside our refrigerator isn’t used. The small door on the freezer is opened only to check for frost buildup when we notice the refrigerator is struggling to maintain temperature.

Is there anything we can do to improve the efficiency and reduce the frost build up?

Here are some thoughts I’ve had but haven’t tried:

# Remove the door to the freezer
Better air flow?

# Remove the drip tray under the evaporator
Expose more of the evaporator to the refrigerator compartment

# Fill the freezer compartment with solid chunks of styrofoam
No place for frost to form?

Are any of these ideas a valid solution?

Re: Unused small freezer compartment frost

Freezer frost occurs when moisture comes into contact with the evaporator coils inside your freezer, and then freezes.
Keep the door closed. If your freezer doors are open often, or are not sealed correctly, warm air from outside can enter the appliance. Every time you open the door of your freezer, cold air will escape, while warmer air will get in.
More air in your freezer could mean a bigger build up of ice. Freezers that are full (of ‘dry’ food) will usually have a slower build up of ice, than ones that are empty.
Half-fill your freezer with dry items [if you actually not using it0, such as a frozen vegetables, brick, tiles, or freeze pacs, etc.
