Use raw water pump to flush Barnacle buster?

Hi everyone,

I just had some work done to get raw water flowing properly through my AC.

I see kits out there with a bucket mounted bilge pump to flush out the nastiness.

I'm wondering why to use another pump when the water pump">raw water pump is already hooked up?

I have a bucket with a spigot that I plan to feed into my strainer, and will have a T valve near the exit point then run a hose to the bucket completing the loop.

I'll plug the pump into my inverter and run it for 2-3 hours.

Any problem with this?

Thanks!!

I take extra hose and a 5 gl bucket, put muratic acid in bucket at about 20% strength, pump sucks water / acid from bucket and returns it, run AC normally for a couple of minutes, rest it for 10 or so repeat and dispose of acid / water mix, hook normal hoses back up to AC.
Muratic acid is inexpensive and very effective.
Only need to do this maybe once a year, depending on how bad the water your in is.
I start out with just water in bucket to get everything hooked up and running right, then add acid after ai know there are no leaks etc.

Is the extra hose you refer to just used to plum the bucket to your system?

Bucket--->extra hose--->strainer (closed sea-cock)--->Pump through open non looped system--->out the thru hull--->repeat.

Correct?

No worries of that solution dripping down the side of the boat damaging finish?

I flusher earlier this year with vinegar using my ac circulation pump, I could see small shells disolving in the bucket. I ran it for about an hour then reconnected my system and ran the ac unit. It ran for awhile then the pump failed! Coincedence? Next time I'll buy a small bilge pump for that job.

We usec the AC pump, filled the system, let it sit, repeat, flush, worked fine. A full recirculation setup was too much trouble to arrange.
