Using a flow sensor instead of a tank level sensor for water

Our drinking water tank level sensors for are not working. But even when new they were very crude.

I'm wondering about using a flow sensor with a remote mounted, totalizing display instead of fitting a level sensor on each tank.

The flow sensor would be in line with the water pressure pump. I would zero the display when selecting a water tank. The display would show the gallons used.

If you've done this please let me benefit from your experience. Thank you.

Yes, I've done this. My water tank never had a volume meter, so I installed a flow meter on the outflow side. Works great. It's now easy to see how much we've used and how much is left.

As an added bonus, I now know quite accurately how much water we tend to use.

Hi Mike,

Excellent. Thank you for your reply. I can't wait to try this.

Please share the source and model number of the sensor you used. Also the approximate cost if you remember.

BTW - Happy 4th.

There are lots out there. I've used one similar to this one.

I also use a cheap meter attached to my fill hose so I know roughly how much water is going in.
