Vent in rear of oven?

Hi,
I have Tasco 3 burner stove that I recently installed that has a vent in the back.
It’s a few inches from a bulkhead and is putting out too much heat when using the oven.
What is the purpose of the vent? Can I plug it with insulation?
I also plan on installing a heat shield on the bulkhead in the area of the vent.Click image for larger version

That’s scary!

Our force 10 also has a vent, but it’s on the top back of the stove top facing the from of the stove.

Do not plug the vent, it is needed for oven exhaust.

Agree a heat shield should be added if that is how close you need to put the stove to the back wall.
Is your stove gimballed? If not, could also possibly create a L type vent tube to redirect heat up.

Yup, need the head shield. If you use s/s, be sure to space it off the fiberglass: you need the air space. Adding a deflector to direct the vented hot air up would be a good idea, if there is room.

You might consider a ceramic for a heat shield.

I had the same problem and installed a piece of right angle flashing on 1/2" standoffs to protect the timber behind the oven. Now the gimballing no longer works so I will have to move the mounts ahead a half inch or so.

Re: Vent in rear of oven?

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but it seems like a good opportunity to describe what I found this week when I pulled my Hillerange oven out from the bulkhead to replace the 40-year old propane hose. There, folded into the space between the metal oven back and the bulkhead was a large, folded paper grocery bag (empty). Right up against the oven!

The logo on the bag was "Alpha Beta", a chain of grocery stores in the PNW in the 1980's, long since out of business. So it was almost certainly put there by the builders (1981 Bayliner 3270), or possibly the original PO, and has been there 40 years!!

The bag was very dry of course, but surprisingly there were no signs of charring or burning! I can't believe it hasn't gone up in flames sometime in the past 40 years.

The stove does have a back vent, but it was above the level of the bag.

Now the big unanswered question.. if it happened in the factory, was it put there deliberately? Or did it accidentally fall into the space..?

Anyway, it seemed like good proof that the oven is well protected from heat escaping out the back wall!
