Vented Loops

I just replaced my entire head system and was wondering if you need to connect the vented loop to a vent outside the cabin?

Thanks for the help!

Re: Vented loops

A vented loop, in theory, only lets air into the system to prevent a siphon from happening. But in reality the valves can fail or worst case stick open allowing nasty smells from entering the cabin. IMHO I'd vent it outside.

Thanks....that is what I was thinking. I bought some vents but they are only for 3/4" hulls & mine is 1 1/4". I am guessing longer vents need to be special ordered. Thanks for the quick reply.

Hi Casi
Never had problems with vented loop system in the heads, I think the main thing is to use the heads and not let it stand for months doing nothing, you can also tell very quickly if the venting is not working.

Re: Vented Loops

welcome--there are 2 vents in the system..if ye wanna call em that-- the vent and the vented looop. the loop is not ventable to outside. the vent is to outside. the vented loop keeps sea water from coming back atcha and the vent keeps the toilet from stinking the boat.... gooodluck.
