Vertical Float Switch

Hello:

I have used an electric magnetic switch for my bilge pump. It is a "Whale BE9003 Electric Field Sensor Switch". I have had 2 of them fail on my me. Luckily when they failed there was not water in the bilge they just went off... Of coarse it is not good for my pumps to run dry!!!!!

I am looking for a good "Vertical Mount Float Switch" I can mount to the side of the bulk head. I want one almost like a traditional float switch where I can lift the switch and activate the pump to test it. I have found some online, but they all seem like they are for water tanks and not marine bulges.

Anyone know of a good one? Thanks.....

Re: Vertical Float Switch

This is reportedly the most reliable bilge float switch: Ultra Safety Systems Ultra Bilge Pump Switch Junior, UPS-02. Pricy ($160 +) but it's a safety thing.

Anyone ever have one fail or false-alarm?

Re: Vertical Float Switch

Ive used this type of switch for years - different brand, not made any more - but same idea. A mercury switch encased in a waterproof ball. Even if there is debris in the bilge, this switch will float on top of it.

I have also heard great things about the Ultra, but have not used one myself.

I really like the Ultra Switches. Is there a may to manually test it?

Usually a bent piece of wire that you fish up through the bottom cage (which has holes on the bottom). Wire coat hangers work, stainless TIG rod is better.

I've seen some similar styles that have this built in but that seems less common for some reason.

Ultra safety switch. This is about as perfect as you can get.
Never had one fail.

Re: Vertical Float Switch

I've had two Ultra bilge switches in use for seven years now.
I haven't had a failure or false positive yet.

As for testing, doesn't your bilge switch handle that?
Also, if you lower a magnet to the switch, it activates. Ask me how I know

Hi, Came across this while searching for my float switch question / solution. If there is an Amel in your area check out Anre's solution to float switches. They are simple and robust.
