Good question. My old Eumenia/Eudora is built like a brickhouse, and I certainly never worried about that.

Will be interesting to see if one of these newfangled jobs will stand up to hard uphill run in a lively sea.

Best wishes finding the best unit for your needs [and space constraints…]

That's crazy ! I've got plenty of other boat jobs not to want to undertake such a project.

Re: Washing Machine Saga

It worked, and has served well 20 yrs. Imo, not crazy at all. A nice, tidy way to solve the problem of the hour.

Not that Dockhead should do it that way, but it solved the problem like Chris did. I'm sure she thought it through before she got out the sabre saw, like wr wakefield did.

Good on ya.

I have another problem, one of the jacuzzi's on my boat will need replacing soon, anyone have any suggestions? It is a small one, only fits 6 people max.

I use a large bucket to was my cloth. The dryer is is a washing line where I hang my washing. Works well.

Yes, and I used my spinnaker sheets for my clothesline, too. But Dockhead has a 57 foot Moody; he often takes crew; he often goes places mere mortals do not often sail to. His needs, above 60 deg. N latitude, are different from someone living in the tropics.

In warm climates, that works fine, especially if you're only one or two people.

Where I sail, I could live without the washing machine, even if that would be inconvenient. But the dryer is essential.

When we moved our first front loading washer, I planned to put the bolts back into place before it was put on the moving truck. On moving day, I pulled the washer out to replace the bolts and could not get them to fit. The manual said a repair person had to replace the bolts.

We just loaded the washer as is on the truck since it was moving day. That washer was replaced a few year later because so many parts were failing including the suspension system. The washer was used at least once a day since we had young kids, so it was certainly used, but we still think the washer had to be replaced too soon. Was the "early" replacement due to use, moving without the bolts in place, and/or the lack of quality in appliances now a days?

I installed one of the Sobas on my Taswell last year, and really like it. No drying function, but that is what the lifelines are for, right?

I have the Soba washing machine on my monohull and have never reinstalled the transit bolts. My Soba is built into a cabinet to stop it moving around while underway, so I would have to remove a deck mounted chair and then uninstall it from its cabinet to remove / replace transit bolts. I've been in a Force 9 of the English South coast last October and took a pounding crossing the gulf stream off Hatteras just two months ago, many things broke but the washing machine is fine (so far, fingers crossed).

Re: Washing Machine Saga

Here is the top-loader washer dryer installed that I have on my boat:
Top-loading washer-dryer WTD8074SF - Brandt Electroménager
Should it be of interest to someone.

I like it! Thanks.

Re: Washing Machine Saga

We have a 2008 Bosch Condenser dryer. It doesn't use water for condensing, just an aircooler. The small water outlet tube from the condenser joins the normal WM drain pipe.

That's interesting. Never seen one of those. That would be an advantage on a boat.

Re: Washing Machine Saga

This is the Bosch air condenser.

And the black knob below is a TMV system so that hot water can be used for the wash part on an European cold fill washing machine.
