Water pressure pump staying on

My water pressure pump is staying on when powered wondering if anybody else has had this issue

Is there any water getting to the pump? Is the tank empty?

What Bill O mentions is that if there is an air bubble positioned at the pump it will not increase pressure in the system when running. If you open a faucet the slight air pressure from the running pump will pump out water untill the air bubble is moved beyond the pump and it is pumping water again. It will then increase pressure enough to get the pressure switch to cut off the pump.

Could be the pressure switch. Do you know how to check it and do you have a multimeter?

Check for leaks upstream of the pump.

The details are starting to fade but these pumps that don’t use a pressure reservoir have issue with a bit of air in any of the lines. Be sure you clear all the lines of air so the pump builds the pressure A bit in one line hose the whole works.

It is a common problem. My troubleshooting approach is 1) tap the output hose (isolating the rest of the fresh water system) and see if the problem disappears. This means you have a leak somewhere, start isolating section by section until you find it. 2) if you do not have a problem downstream, it could be the pressure switch or some pumps circulate water within the pump. In most cases it is cheaper to replace the pump at this point but you can disassemble and try to fix if you have the time.

I do have a multimeter. But I am not sure how to test pressure switch. I have water in the system but it might not be building enough pressure or the 40 psi switch is bad. Let me know if you know how to test switch thanks for your help

Alright just found I do have an accumulated tank directly past the pump. Have never dealt with one so not sure if it is part of the problem or not

Tried tapping lines( eventually punching them) made sure that I couldn't find any leaks by eye sight. Thanks

Did you run out of water recently? I often find that when that occurs air gets in the line and the pressure switch will not function. Often it gets an air bubble in an "up loop" in the output line to faucets etc somewhere.
