I think this might be the simplest solution.
So, just install it inline between the tank and the pump?

OK. I think it's fixed!
Thanks Lepke and everyone else that's contributed.
I bought a check valve (one-way) between the tank and pump.
So far so good. So A marked improvement.
I've noticed a very small leak on the pump ( pressure) side of the valve. Needs a couple more turns.
