WaterFixers and Whale Gusher Galley Pumps

Many of you have asked the question, "Can i run a Waterfixer with a Whale foot Pump?" So to answer this we purchased a Gusher Galley 4gpm pump for testing. We ran it through our 2 systems, Model 500 and Model 1000, with Great Success! The 2 filters in the Model 1000 allowed 2.5 GPM through, while the single filter in the 500 allowed slightly more. I will try to upload some pics.

Re: WaterFixers and Whale Gusher Galley Pumps

The key to our success has been the addition of 1 micron absolute "high flow" filters as a filtering option. Our Carbon Block .5m filter has been our go-to filter for many years, but they slow the flow down enough so as not to be usable by the Gusher Galley Foot Pump. In this Pic the filters are as follows going from left to right. 5 micron washable pleated pre-filter for model 1000, 1 micron absolute "high flow" main filter, .5 micron carbon block filter.

If you use a carbon filter mainly to remove organics, and let the other filters take care of any crunchy stuff, is there an optimum micron rating for the carbon filter that makes it more effective at organics without impeding the flow? Or does the smaller rating also help ensure better removal of organics?

Re: WaterFixers and Whale Gusher Galley Pumps

The largest micron rating allowed by the CDC for removal of harmful organics is 1 micron absolute. To overcome the slowdown in the .5 micron carbon block you have to increase the size of the filter and filter housing. The larger filters for the Big Blue housings run in th $70-$80 range. Not to mention that they take up a lot of space. We are developing a model that runs at a much higher flow rate to be released later this year. In the mean time we are carrying the "high flow" 1 micron absolute filters. They allow the flow needed without the constriction. The only drawback is that they do not remove taste/odor issues. If the flow is the issue and taste is still a problem the user can get a britta pitcher for drinking water.
