Watermaker with 3 phase 220/230v

Hi anybody made a water maker with the HP pump driven by a 3phase 230v 1.5hp elec motor, using a VFD, very easy low amp start and the input voltage can be anything from 110v to 230v 50 or 60hz. In the uk a 2.5kw VFD such as an invertek optidrive can be bought for around £120, and the 3 phase motor is a lot cheaper than single phase especially if you want a 56 face plate for a cat pump. Even better the VFD can use a 20v rated switch to start/stop so no expensive AC contactor required.

Re: Watermaker with 3 phase 220/230v

The variable frequency drive I'm using takes 200 to 240volt single phase 48 to 62hz input and converts it to 3 phase at whatever the input voltage is and a frequency variable from 0 to 500hz, it's a cheap way to get a 3 phase supply, and as I am sure you are aware 3phase elec motors don't need capacitors to start and have a much lower starting current so you can start and run a 1.5hp motor with a trusty honda eu20 . Problem is in UK it's difficult to source a cheap 240v motor that can connect to a Cat pump, which generally uses a 56C face plate. You can however get Baldor 3phase 1.5 hp 56C motors.
