Watermakers that will run off Honda 2000

As the title says, I am looking at watermakers that will run off the Honda 2000 generators.

I don't know all the brands out there. So what would be your pick and why ?

I appreciate your thoughts.

Almost all of the 20-40gph ones. My Seawater Pro 40 gph will.

We run our Rainman Portable 110v unit off our Honda if it is cloudy. Otherwise just off our invertor. It does about 38 gallons per hour.

There's another thing to consider: those Hondas are noisy, which means you'll end up with no friends in the anchorage.

Sorry, just doesn't really bother me when folks do this. And Hondas are certainly quieter than most.

I have found that I can't hear my Honda when I'm not on the boat and just 100ft away. It is way louder on our boat that it would be for anyone else. We have made some good friends loaning it out. Never had one person say anything about noise.

I was already looking at the Seawater Pro unit, the 20 gallon model because I like the price.

And you don't think multiples of the same makes more noise?

Re: Watermakers that will run off Honda 2000

Looking for a cheap watermaker solution myself but have thankfully done away with carrying my Honda EU2.2 generator. It was previously only ever run whilst underway under my outboard anyway so was not contributing to anchorage noise pollution.
I now have an EcoFlow delta max 2000 lithium powerbank charged by a decent solar array on my trailerable cruising yacht.
This allows in virtual silence (a little cooling fan noise on occasions excepted) pretty much the equivalent to shore power or running a generator and is capable of powering all the 240v appliances onboard including refrigeration and induction cooking but perhaps not a decent sized air conditioner.
Whilst expensive it is way cheaper than most RO watermakers I have been reviewing.

If you want a portable unit, that will run with virtually no setup requirements beyond throwing the pickup line overboard, a Rainman unit will produce 37gph and run off of a Honda Generator or a 2000w inverter with adequate battery bank/solar. Super reliable, worldwide support from many dealers.
They also offer an installable unit that comes with a fairly comprehensive installation kit.

I've sold hundreds, and the only issues we have experienced have been related to wear and tear after tens of thousands of gallons of water produced.

Re: Watermakers that will run off Honda 2000

We run our Seawater Pro dual membrane watermaker off our Honda EU2200i all the time. We run the Honda at the back of the cockpit and plug it into the shore power outlet and then run the watermaker off the Victron Multiplus II inverter. No issues at all, the Honda does not even run all that hard. We can charge batteries some at the same time.

We do set the inverters digital multi-control to a max inverter output of 16 amps. When we forget to do that the Honda will try too hard and trip its breaker.

We make about 35GPH doing this. Very efficient way to make water.

Re: Watermakers that will run off Honda 2000

I'm definitely leaning to the SeaWaterPro model. I actually have 2 of the Honda 2000's, although I would only take one with me. But I have room to mount the watermaker components in the starboard cockpit locker. And then I would do as Tspringer does - setting the Honda at the back of the cockpit and plugging it into shorepower.

Looking at the numbers I think I could probably run the watermaker and my free-standing AC at the same time. It's only a 5000btu model so draws few amps. I have used it to keep me fairly cool while I work on things at the dock, and it does a fine job of keeping the salon cool and dry.

I could see having a laundry day or washdown day a couple times a week, and cooling off the cabin at the same time. I think its good to suck out the moisture now and then, it seems to make things nicer down below.

I just know I'm going to want to be pretty free and loose with water, I don't want to have to ration it too much. I love the ocean and salt water, but I also like to rinse things off (including myself) and I like to try - as much as possible - to keep the cabin clean and salt free. Every little bit helps, and having a good supply of water helps even more.

Having a watermaker would mean that I could use 10 gallons a day - even more on laundry day - and not be concerned. That amount of water means a nice rinse every time I come back to boat, even several times a day. Just feels like it would add greatly to the comfort level. And who doesn't want that ?

Oldmanmirage, I’m with you. I also have twin Honda 2000’s I currently use on my 5th wheel and plan on bringing them with me when I eventually go cruising. I normally use only one at a time, which saved hours and fuel. The luxury of plentiful freshwater suits my plans, as well.
