What could be deforming base valve gasket on manual toilet pump?

Hi folks!

Around a month ago I (partially) rebuilt my jabsco manual toilet pump and as part of that the base valve gasket was replaced (the old one didn't have a gap between the flap and the outer part), but now the pump started having a lot of difficulty sucking solid waste out of the bowl so I opened it up and found that the gasket was deformed again. I don't use chemicals to clean the toilet so I'm wondering what could have caused it to get deformed so quickly. Any ideas?

Best regards

Over-tightening screws or bolts that go through rubber will cause the rubber to "pucker" around each screw/bolt, which is just about guaranteed to create a leak around each one. In a fairly short time, those "puckers" will will become permanent.

When you install the next replacement, tighten all 4 screws only a 1/4 turn past hand tight...flush to check for a leak. If none, quit there. If there is one, tighten all screws/bolts ONLY 1/4 turn again. Flush to check for leaks. Repeat only as necessary to prevent leaks.
