Re: yet another bilge pump check valve idea

At IBEX last week I saw a new Rule pump on display ( not on their site yet) but it had a duck bill valve on its outlet. Not sure I've ever seen that in a factory bilge pump before.

My bilge is about 5 feet below the cabin sole. The easy access opening shows me the top of the encapsulated lead and the fuel tank. To access the bottom of the keel I have to move the companion way stairs. Its heavy and big and hard to get far enough out of the way to do anything.

Common enough on some pump deigns. Just don't add one to a bilge pump.

Re: yet another bilge pump check valve idea

robwilk37, I think you have a good idea even if adding another maintenance check item. Just make sure your pump can handle some scum, etc. without using that dinky little filter in the Dry Bilge System. You may have to use a real water filter to protect the pump. A diaphragm pump will leak back if there is any hair or other fibrous material stuck in the diaphragm.
