1speed harken winch stuck

Trying to clean my one speed harken 16 winch. Unscrewed the bolt inside the cavity that the winch goes into. The screw comes out easily, the problem is that the winch cylinder and stripper will not come out. Tapped it but nothing.any suggestions?

Just a guess but the stripper arm is stainless and the drum is aluminum? If so could be galvanic corrosion of dissimilar metals. Try PB Blaster or a penetrating oil. Give it some time then brute force and/or heat. I am working on a set of old Lewmars myself lately.

Hit it with buster. Is the nut where the screw. Sets big enough to hold a puller? I might try that. Careful not to ruin the winch.

Harken

If you Google on that, you'll come to the winches section, and the site indicates there is a servic manual section.

On your winch, is there a circlip that is keeping you from getting it apart?

Happy hunting,

Ann

Landon fastest best way. Orange cleaner. Wrap with towel, Pull the clip soak with cleaner then put you winch handle in and push and pull. Slowly work the varnish. Gas and all that other stuff just makes a mess. Oh and if you clean them every year it will solve your problems.

Got it off with a bearing puller. No clip, just stuck. I will try the small rag soaked also next time. Thanks. Also I will try to service more often...
