27 Barient Winch Servicing - advice please!

So we just got a Adams 40 beautiful boat but the whinchs are in need of a service. We have 4 in the cockpit 2 barient 32 and 2 barient 27. After servicing the 32 and completing with great results, I went onto one of the 27. Iv pulled it apart according to manuals I have found online but the main shaft with the gears and pawls inside are seized up and the main shaft won't come out of the housing.

It had a split washer on the bottom, which I took off but still can't pull it apart. Has anyone got any insight on what to try next? Or have any idea on how the shaft can pull out?

Thanks in advance

Have you removed the Allen bolts?

A word from the wise:

Cut a circle in the bottom of a box. Slide the box over the winch so if (when) the parts start flying off they'll fall in the box.

Now about your question... Those three rings should slide up. The alan keys will free up the rest. Be careful with the bolts. They break but luckily they're common enough to replace.

I have the same winches. Be patient. Find a way to pry them up. Use pb blaster or a comparable penetrant. I had to take a torch to one to get it free. Just be persistent and don't bend or break anything. It should come free with some elbow grease.

Thanks Crusiers. After heating up the shaft and a good tap with a soft mallet she slipped out. Been neglected for a good while by the looks of things. I just pulled apart the other 27. And all the gears and pawl clutches are missing so looks like its time to order some parts. Appreciate the help.
