Adding inner foresay on a Benetau 46?

I have not been happy with just furling my genoa in stronger winds (over 20kn). The sail looks deformed, no overlap with main, forestay tension without balancing pressure from reefed main. Is there practical way of adding an inner forestay to a Beneteau 46 (2000)? she already has a 'babey stay' but that should not be in the way. Has anyone done it?

Based on the layout in the forward cabin, it looks like you would have to mount it at the aft end of the anchor locker in order to get the forces tied in to the bulkhead and the hull. For the mast end it would be a good idea to talk to a rigger AND your sailmaker, so as to figure out what would work best shape and size-wise and where it all has to go.Don't forget a cleat for the halyard!

Easier to just get a jib instead of a genoa.

Not really. Replacing to a smaller headsail will impact performance in lighter breeze.

You want the comfort and versatility (and safety!) of a cutter rigging. Highly recommend to have a furler on the inner stay as well.

As suggested here, there is a need to carefully check the options with the boat’s design and mast/rigging. I’ve seen that option with a Beneteau 44, 2001 but not sure with the OP’s boat.

Surely thats where an asymetric on a single line furler would come into play to compensate.. good up to 15kts.

Hmmm... guess you meant code zero?... asymmetric is very much a downwind schute and the OP issue is having an option for a smaller jib at 15+ kts. An inner staysail is the traditional common solution.

I have an original furled staysail on my Contest and I love it, but definitely also looking to add a code zero on a continuous line furler in front of the genoa. Will need to design and build a nice short bow sprit first.
