Anybody recognize this garboard?

This is the garboard transom drain on a Sinbad Sailing Dinghy I just bought that is missing the screw-in plug. Does anybody recognize it? It is either 1/2" or 5/8" but the NPT plugs I tried didnt match the thread pattern which seems very coarse. Any assistance appreciated.

This particular example is Ronstan, but there are lots of makers.

It doesn't look original. Can you just use one of the expandable rubber plugs common on small boats?

That is not a garboard! Garboard is the first plank next to the keel. Your photo looks like a common drain plug for a dinghy

Re: Anybody recognize this garboard?

Not sure why the exclamation mark was your choice of punctuation. I researched this a bit and several sources identify the transom mounted drain in a sailing dinghy as a garboard drain. If there is a more historically authentic definition of garboard then great, but I still don’t understand the exclamatory statement. After a career of dedicated to public education that I somehow managed to complete a PhD in learning theory I have found that positive reinforcement rather than harsh critique is the optimal explanatory tone. Thank you for the data though.

I believe the comment refers to your reference as a drain opening as a "Garboard", which is incorrect. You yourself later refer to it as a "Garboard Drain.." You have already defined it yourself as a Garboard Drain, which could be true if used as a drain adjacent to the garboard, but then you again refer to the drain as a Garboard. The comment was probably meant to be helpful, so rather than getting upset with the clarification offered, please refer to things correctly because quite clearly a drain is not a garboard.

Re: Anybody recognize this garboard?

Yeah it looks like a Ronstan which has the coarse thread. There are other plugs here in Aus that also use the same "coarse" thread so presume easily available wherever you are.
Or just rip it out and replace the bung and base with whatever you find is easy to get where you live.

it's commonly called a garboard drain, regardless if there is a garboard.

Not upset just pushing back against a hostile comment. My research prior to posting revealed the term garboard drain from several sources to describe a transom mounted drain. If those sources are inaccurate then I think it’s great to acquire the right info, but do not see the need for the hypercritical tone. I think this forum should be a healthy place to exchange information and know how. Oneupmanship that attempts to elevate one member’s knowledge over another’s inquiry risks to create a learning environment that is toxic to open and free inquiry. It happens all the time on the internet and I for one think that we at cruisersforum should endeavour to maintain a collegial tone that reflects the time honoured tradition of sailors coming to each other’s assistance. Respect and empathy should lead the way.
