Actually it can be riveted if the fitting is placed inside the mast. Wichard makes a neat item that requires a narrow rectangle opening into which the 2 symmetrical parts are inserted, bolted together and riveted from the outside in. Works nicely on my boat for years and allows the right spacing to the top of the forestay (approx 2’ below thus not requiring running backstays)

That is the fitting I would aim to use for sure. Simple and bompproof.
