Benefits of whisker pole?

I was looking for a pole to my cat,before Atlantic crossing couple years ago. Than, the rigger (NanceUnderwood) came,saw my rig and, told me I don't need one. Made me a bridle for asymetric spinaker,instead, which is very handy- I move tack from amidship to any bow. That's true , that if you run DDW on autopilot an aspi ,may collapce and,reopening it w/out dosing may be dramatic.
Next season I shall add symmetrical kite for DDW. My genova is relatively small and a barberhaul is, usually, enough.

When travelling long distances chaff is your greatest enemy. Anything that holds you sails stiffer And not curling around shrouds and stays
A barbers pole does this. But decide how long you want it telescopic ones are not reliable.
You can buy the ends and a length of al pipe and adjust it till it's just right. A word of warning Start long.
