Bent Mast

Hello! I have a Flying Scot with a bent mast. Probably 8-12 inch infection, no kinks and want to try and get it straight again. The way it happened, it was on a trailer on the beach, wind storm knocked it over and the weight of the boat bent the mast.

Any ideas would be appreciated, thank you!

I'd drive some stakes in the ground in that grass and see what you can accomplish by hand first.

Try a metal fabricator or two. Someone who bends and forms pipe and other shapes will have a roll former and hydraulic bending equipment. The force is not so big but the precision they can offer is high. I found a local guy to bend my jib tracks to exact radius. They can U.N.-bend too.

I would 100% go with the stakes in the ground idea first. Looks pretty doable and if it works out it probably didn't cost anything and took less than half a day.

I agree, that doesn’t look like it’s deformed too seriously. Stakes or something solid to prop against, then a ratchet strap or sash clamp to apply controlled pressure. I’ve reshaped stainless tubing like that. Do it over a short length at a time.
