Re: Bow Roller Wheels

I like the shaft size, not sure about nylon and no chain groove. In the end it's probably easy to over think rollers though... :>)

Re: Bow Roller Wheels

This from Windline seems pretty good. What I really want to make sure is that I have a more or less standard size. So this gives me dimensions I can fabricate to, or no smaller than anyway. I can then either buy them or have something fabricated to the same size.

W-50
Marithane Wheel
Features:
Hand cast from an elastomer unmatched in ability to resist wear and distortion at high loads
More durable, yet quieter than either hard plastic or metal
Virtually Indestructible

Diameter: 5"
Width: 3.4"
Hole Size: .5"

Its funny, the various diameters have different profiles. The 4" has a chain groove, but the 5" does not. Yet.

Re: Bow Roller Wheels

Having used a polyurethane boat trailer roller on Boracay I'm envious of those that have the luxury of having a roller turned.

In that case I'd second the largest possible diameter, flaring to allow for the boat swinging and a groove for the "down" link.

I'd also go for a deep groove for the "flat" link.

The reason? Well, sometimes when Boracay sits at anchor she swings slowly from side to side. As she reaches the end of each swing the anchor chain jumps across the roller with a "ddunkk" sound which resonates right through the steel hull. Drives me crazy...

Re: Bow Roller Wheels

Isn't is amazing how the sounds resonate in a steel boat?

Had a shackle slop around in a hole, about 1/8" slop.

Like being in a bloody drum.

I made a, oh hell what's the word, bushing? out of some rubber shower stall mat I had.

Bliss and quiet.

Laying in St. Johns, NL next to an alloy boat. About 2 miles away someone starts on a pile driver in the harbor. Two heads pop up "Whats going on???? Who's hitting my boat???"
