Leaded gunmetal bronze, contains zinc, your boats going to the bottom of the harbor in short order. just kidding of course. Groco’s the same.

Re: Bronze chainplates silicone bronze or aluminum bronze

My 1978 Starratt Jenks 46 lost (to rust) the sub deck brace and required a replacement of the entire chain plate from deck to the imbeded knee that attaches to the keel. I had SS 316 new ones for both sides made from an estimate of what was left. The aft chain plate is now 3.5 inches forward from the attaching bolts and will not align. The steel is not moving. I seek another person with a Starratt for pictures and advice. I suspect I will need to take it to a foundry to get it bent to fit.

Re: Bronze chainplates silicone bronze or aluminum bronze

Here’s the pics of the finished product. I cut the plate with a plasma cutter, rounded the edges with a tiger paw, and put the holes in with a carbide bit. . I “polished” them down to look nice with a 60 grit tiger paw. Then switched to a 220 grit then 320 grit on the random orbital sander. I used 1/2” silicon bronze hex heads, with ss lock washers, and ss nylon lock nuts. I used life caulk on the backs and put them in. Very very easy job. Working with bronze is so much nicer then ss. I just used my knee to bend them cost me 350 for the bronze and 100 for the bolts. I’m happy
