Re: Butyl Tape in Tropics

I liked 101 also because it didn't chalk or turn yellow. I hate using Lifecaulk because it chalks and turns yellow wherever it is exposed. So you end up with yellow chalky lines around any fitting.

Mostly I use 4200 now, but find it too much of an adhesive and too less of a sealant. Maybe I will give the 295UV a shot.

I have a bunch of hardware to rebed this Spring. What is a good source for butyl Tape?
Thanks

Go here. Buy from the expert. It works. I've rebedded everything on my boat with it.

GE Silpruf is an excellent marine silicone caulk. I used it for re-bedding my chainplates. Don't use the hardware store brands.

Re: Butyl Tape in Tropics

A thick coat of Henry 430 acts similar to a butyl rubber.
Takes a while to dry if laid on a thick layer.
It does not ever harden so wont crack. very water resistant, I put some underwater and it did not redissolve although the surface of the glue turned white after a few days, it stayed soft and gummy.
I use it as a low strength adhesive.
When dry and thick like a soft sticky gum.
Dries to a tan color, stays very stretchy and rubbery.
