Can anyone identify my roller furler?

Would dearly love to identify the roller furler on my boat so I can look for an exploded diagram.

It looks like it had sticker on it once which might have had the brand/model on, but unfortunately this has faded to nothing. I can't find any markings on the on the drum. Would the model really only have been identified with a sticker? Or is it so well-known it doesn't need one and I'm being dumb?

Any suggestions?

I see, it does, doesn't it? Exploded diagram right there on the opening page of the website. Wow, thank you so much, Marc, super helpful!

Re: Can anyone identify my roller furler?

yours looks a wee bit older.

under Technical Datas tab there are some exploded diagrams. I would imagine that not much has changed, I'm sure though, if you emailed the tech department with your picture they might be able to narrow down the age and proper manual/diagrams.

Thanks for the suggestion, Marc, I have emailed them, so let's see what they say.

Much appreciated, Andy

Re: Can anyone identify my roller furler?

Just replaced my Facnor LS200 yours looks very similar, mine gave me grief for 4 years before i bought a selden fulex. Replace it or expect very poor performance, these units have very poor history. If you want mine for parts PM me, I will ship if you cover the cost. But you should look at replacing, I tried to communicate with Facnor with no success. Sorry if this is your truth as well. Good luck, Cheers

OK, well cheers, I have been warned, it's better know this.

After seeing your post, I looked up You Tube and found a couple of videos of someone replacing their LS200 after 4 years, but I guess it wasn't you because they had a catamaran and they seemed to be replacing it with another Facnor drum?

Thank you very much indeed for that offer of parts. I guess I'll see if it looks worth fixing when I disassemble it, but maybe an upgrade would give me confidence going forward?

Best regards.

No worries, there are some online sources (forums) that go though the step by step on the rebuild, there may be a post on it here, not sure, your vessel is not the same size so there may not be an design issue, as there was with the LS 200, it may just need a good cleaning, we cleaned and every time it worked better for less and less time until it didn’t.
Salt water played a part,…but it should not have imho. Cheers

I have a Facnor SD180. Works already perfect for over 25 years

Re: Can anyone identify my roller furler?

The older ones were quite good. Rerigged a FP 43 3 years ago that was 17?? Years old and furler was fine. Needed new bushing at the top...

Re: Can anyone identify my roller furler?

I had a Profurl which tended to seize up over the summer layover because water would get past the upper seal and the carbon steel roller bearing corrode until it seized. Solved the problem by leaving the lower seal out and liberally applying lanolin grease to the bearing.

These drawings might help.
Getting parts from Facnor is nigh on impossible.

Re: Can anyone identify my roller furler?

Biggest issue with the SD series is that the lip seals go and the drum loses grease, which is then replaced with salt water.
I have rebuilt both my SD furlers, touch wood, still going OK

What a crazy thing to do!
Buy a bloody set of seals and a bearing or get dismasted offshore which a jammed headsail full out. But I guess lanolin is cheap.

Of course one should never modify any piece of yacht equipment because the equipment designers are infallible, always use the highest quality materials, honour warranties immediately and without inquiry as to cause of failure etc.

But then again the silly buggers could have used stainless steel bearings and included a labyrinth drain to let the water out if the seals failed for any reason.

Yeah, get dismasted offshore because the carbon steel bearing has corroded from water intrusion with the headsail full out because everyone knows that a headsail will unfurl a lot easier than it will furl.

As to the cost of lanolin it is three to four times more expensive than hydrocarbon grease but has the enormous advantage that it does not biodegrade like the hydrocarbon based stuff does.

And if you think my habits with furlers is outrageous and affronting you should avoid much of the unorthodox stuff I post for the good of your mental health.
