Can Anyone Identify This Traveler and Track?

I recently learned I need to shape the sail with the sheet, then use the traveler to get the “sheeting angle” right in order to properly sail a multihull of the type I’m building. Never had the good fortune of sailing anything but 1980s slow boats before. So it’s a learning curve.

Thanks ThumbsUp and fxykty!

I figured out a way to install a proper traveler, bridging the cantilever dinghy davits, but also securing the traveler all along its base as it needs to be.

Can anyone identify the type of traveler and track I have so I can order a long section of track?

Here are pics of the cross section of the track and the traveler car’s underside.

Hint: The donor boat originally came from France if that helps.

Thanks!

Goiot would be my guess see profiles here:

Depending on parts needed it may be cost effective to consider having a new one made to your specs from Garhauer.

Goiot?

And for the record, never had the pleasure of using a goiot traveller that worked smoothly.

Re: Can Anyone Identify This Traveler and Track?

I recently replaced a similar traveller with one from Garhauer. The difference is like night and day. I sent my old track to Garhauer and the new track's holes matched my old track's holes exactly. All of the bearings are ball bearings. Adjusting the old traveller under load was a real chore. Now it is easy.

Re: Can Anyone Identify This Traveler and Track?

Ok, that’s 2 votes for Garhauer already.

I’m seeing a pattern here. Should probably look into this idea.

Thank you.

I was trying to keep the budget down by using what came with my mast but this is 9ft long and I need about 16ft.

Was hoping to at least keep the car, but if it’s not going to work well...

Garhauer is an excellent source for high quality hardware at a reasonable price. They are very customer oriented and easy to work with.

I replaced the entire traveler on my Pearson 33 with a Lewmar system from Defender.

Re: Can Anyone Identify This Traveler and Track?

I've always been a fan of the adjustable main sheet traveller that rides, either in the slot for the sail slides, or on it's own tube affixed to the mast.
Try as I might, pulling the main tout with the halyard alone, has never produced a tight leading edge for the main....the upper part of the sail gets tight, but the lower end never does.
Being able to lower the boom, solves this problem. Off course, other ways to do this.
The pic above appears to show a fixed gooseneck.

Regarding that traveller, that curve on the bottom is there to accommodate the curve on the mast, as a traveller is often located here for the spinnaker pole.

This may sound radical, but I had those on my steel boat, and was concerned that the bottom edges may punch thru' the paint and cause rust, so I took a belt sander to it, and flattened the bottom edges....I've also seen them mounted on a piece of teak...

Off course, you can get travellers with a flat bottom, see above...but keep that one for placement on the mast.

Finally, if you've considering a long traveller for the mainsheet, it needs to be curved in an arc that mimics the end of the boom....or wherever your mainsheet is located on the boom.

I meant to say adjustable "mainsail" gooseneck...

Re: Can Anyone Identify This Traveler and Track?

Looks like the traveler car is a Nicro Fico "X" track and the traveler car also.

RigRite has these items but for 300% price increase. I bought a traveler car for my Nicro Fico track and RigRite whacked me for $600. Then I wanted blocks for the ends of the traveler track and they wanted $300 each and had the nerve to tell me that it would take 3 months TO MAKE THEM.

I found the end blocks with double sheaves from Garhauer for $75 each. That's a price I can live with.

Another vote for Garhauer - they will bend the track if you want an arc. They will also bend vertically. A track 16' might cost a lot to ship. Might make sense
to make it in 2 8' pieces.

Re: Can Anyone Identify This Traveler and Track?

I’ll offer another recommendation for Garhauer. I haven’t bought traveler track from them but everything else I’ve gotten from them was after great customer service communication, high quality workmanship and surprisingly reasonably priced.

Re: Can Anyone Identify This Traveler and Track?

I think I’d like to buy some stock in Garhauer. Ha ha ha.

Looks like they have cornered the market. I will definitely be getting a new traveler from them.

Chotu,
I don't know where you are located at the moment....but there are salvage yards up and down the coast which may offer an opportunity to find some of this stuff. The one's here in Florida have tons of this stuff laying around.
